THE GUINNESS COMPANY & COMMUNITY IN IRELAND, 1900 - 1925
While my thesis will focus on the Guinness Co. reaction to and involvement in the events surrounding and ensuing from the 1916 Rising, including the War of Independence and the Civil War, the Sources Essay will attempt to position the Co. in the political, economic and social life of the Ireland of the first quarter of the 20th. Century. This will include their use of indigenous and imported raw materials; their manufacture, distribution and export of product; labour relations, including wages, welfare, housing and unionisation; and the impact of and response to the great political, social and cultural upheavals of the time.
